One of my Domino servers is running for almost 180 days without problems. We are now planning to upgrade to version 8.5.1 FP2

I tried to install FP2 for Notes client and the install fail with the message

“Error encountered while installing Notes Core Hotfix component.�.

I stop Lotus Notes Diagnostic Services and run nsd -kill from Notes directory and the FP2  was successfully installed.

Single partition in MS Cluster

1. Install a Domino server on the first node with the single partition residing on F:.  For example, F:data.
2. Set up a Domino server and rename the host to the cluster hostname that is specified in “Customize”.
3. Install a Domino server on the second node.
4. Copy the file, notes.ini, to the program directory from the first node to the second node. For single partitioned servers, the file notes.ini is located in the program directory.
5. Edit the service registry keys to be exactly the same on both nodes.
6. Set the Domino service start type to manual  for failover to work for Domino services.

Configure Domino server failover using MS clustering
You need to add Domino service(s) as a resource in an active cluster group. Domino does not have any specific resource designed for MS cluster; therefore, we use a generic service that MS cluster provides.

1. Select one active group such as Cluster group or Group 0.
2. Add “New” -> “Resource” to the group.
3. Select “Generic Service” in resource type.
4. Use the name “Cluster Domino Service.”
5. Add both Microsoft Windows servers to the cluster, and then be sure all other resources are available before Cluster Domino Service1 starts by adding all other resources as dependencies.
6. Verify that you are using a service name, not a display name.
7. Ensure Domino services on both Microsoft Windows servers have the same service name.

No registry replication is needed

Procedimento

01 РRegistrar o servidor Domino no livro de endere̤os. Procedimento normal de cria̤̣o de um servidor.
02 – Instalar o Domino server em um dos nós. Neste momento deve-se colocar os executáveis do Domino no disco C:LotusDomino e o data no disco E:LotusDominoData
03 РConfigurar o servidor Domino. Na parte de configura̤̣o de rede deve-se customizar o endere̤o e utilizar o endere̤o do cluster microsoft. No caso o nome que utilizamos foi NOTESCLT
04- Instalar o Language pack normalmente
05- Instalar Fixes normalmente.
06 РColocar o servi̤o do Domino em modo MANUAL.
07 – Iniciar o servidor Domino como aplicativo para verificar seu funcionamento.
08 – Mover o disco e: para o outro nó do CLUSTER MICROSOFT
09 – Executar os passos 02 a 06 novamente no novo nó
10 – Copiar o NOTES.INI do primeiro nó para o segundo nó

Configurar o Servidor Domino como failover do MS Cluster. Esta tarefa é realizada pelo administrador do Windows.

Today i opened an PMR about some crashes of my 02 Domino mail servers. The support team told me to put, on notes.ini of  every mail server, the parameter
 iNotes_WA_SingleThreadSpellCheck=1 if the users access the mail boxex with  iNotes 8.5.x

WebSphere Portal version 6.1.0.1 supports installing and running on WebSphere Application Server version 7.0, but does not fully exploit its capabilities when compared to Application Server version 6.1.

No previous releases of WebSphere Portal will support Application Server V7.0, including version 6.1.0.0, even when upgraded to version 6.1.0.1 by applying a fix pack. The refreshed installation images for version 6.1.0.1 must be used to install against an existing Application Server version 7.0. There is no media or included license for Application Server version 7.0 provided in any WebSphere Portal version 6.1.0.1 packaging, edition, or e-Assembly.

Application Server version 7.0 licensing, installation media or images must be obtained separately.

After DAOS has been enabled on a Domino server, if the virus scanner has not been configured properly to avoid .NLO files, “File is in use” errors may occur.

The virus scanner should be configured to prevent processing the. NLO files in the DAOS repository.  This can be accomplished either by specifying that the scanner skip files with an .NLO suffix, or by specifying that the DAOS base directory (and all subdirectories) should be skipped by the scans.

Instead of scanning the .NLO files directly, the attachments should be scanned via the Domino server by an application, such as an add-in program, that works through the Domino API.

Last week I had a meeting with security personnel from a client, the meeting was about the safety of Notes & Domino environment deployed in the company. For the photo below you can see that meetings with the security staff are always tense and full of questions.

Semana passada eu tive uma reunião com o pessoal de segurança de um cliente, a reunião era sobre a segurança do ambiente Domino & Notes implantado na empresa.
 Pela foto abaixo pode-se ver que reuniões com o pessoal de segurança são sempre tensas e cheias de questionamentos.
